Worth Repeating: Ironstone Obsession Symphony (California 2008)

Note: I loved this wine the first time I tried it, and I’m going to see if I can get my hands on another bottle to celebrate my birthday this weekend. And I want to celebrate you wonderful readers for being here, too. So, please join me and lift a glass this Saturday! To you!

I picked up this bottle for the name*: it’s Valentine-y. But really, a better name would be seduction because this white wine absolutely blew me away. I couldn’t put it down; I wanted more, more, more, please more.

The pale, lemon-yellow color is crystalline in the glass with ever so tiny bubbles clinging to the bottom. The aroma alone caught my breath, with floral and fruit fragrances reminding me of fresh Texas peaches, succulent honeydew melon, and lilacs. (A surprise.) And the taste (!) finishes what the aroma promised. It’s juicy, velvety-smooth and fruit forward. The peaches are accompanied by white raisins and a wonderful sticky honey flavor. Complex, like a symphony or your lover, with a fresh, clean finish.

I enjoyed my glass with spicy chipotle grilled chicken, and it was a wonderful quencher for all that heat. But it would be a perfect mate to pork tenderloin and delightful with a spring green salad with pears and blue cheese. Or with baklava it would be complete surrender.

I found this bottle at Sprouts for $10.50, but you can get it at Spec’s for only $8 – a steal. But don’t take my word for it, share it with your lover and see if you don’t become their newest obsession.

*I learned that Symphony is a new varietal resulting from the cross of Muscat of Alexandria and Grenache Gris vines. A wonderful, delightful new grape, and I hope we see more of it.
