Ok, so this one is a big-bottle budget wine that had a cute label. And by cute label, I really mean cute name. Because there isn’t a sales rep on the planet who can pass up anything that even remotely resembles low-hanging fruit – the deal you can close with little to no effort. It’s easy work, kinda like this wine. As a bonus, this Merlot was only $8 at HEB for 1.5L (the equivalent of two normal bottles), a great price.
This light red, almost russet colored wine smelled of smoke, dust, spice, and leather. It was light-bodied with mostly dusty-smoky taste, some berry flavors and a hint of oak. It was a really easy-drinking wine, perfect for a mid-week meal of lasagna or spaghetti. It was a bit different from most sub-$5 Merlots, what with the smoke flavor, but it wasn’t bad. I might like to try it sometime with a grilled cheese sandwich or a BLT. Might be fun.
Also, I completely forgot to take a photograph! Not so great a loss, but if I buy another bottle at some point in the future, I’ll grab a shot and post a picture. Or, you could go buy a bottle yourself and take your own snapshot.
